Spade Grips
The Spade Grip is the pilot's control stick; one of the fundamental parts of the aircraft that allows the pilot to control the direction of the plane. Called a Spade Grip because it resembles exactly that, it allowed the pilot to hold the control stick at a more relaxed angle, particularly when pulling the stick back and closer to the body there pistol-style grip would make the wrist angle quite uncomfortable.
The overall look of the Spade Grip hardly differed on the many aircraft it was used on, be that the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lysander, Barracuda, Defiant and others. The part number was different, as was the gun button, its tubing, brake lever or no brake lever etc.
